Review
- :Wumpscut: Wreath of Barbs Metropolis 2001
When
I was a wee tyke, I probably liked show tunes or the Beatles.
When I
turned to harder drugs, be it from peer pressure or low self esteem,
I
needed an edgier soundtrack to my rebellious poo-pooing of societal
norms.
Where could a young girl, disenchanted with leaders and heroes,
confused by
her blossoming sexuality, find someone who understood? Some would
say Trent
Reznor filled that void in their life made painfully obvious by
their lack
of friends, but those people are bitch-ass pussies.
The real sick fucks liked :Wumpscut: , because there were gross
song titles
and the lyrics were barely understandable German. Freaks everywhere
rejoiced, "Hey, no one can understand him, either!"
Jah-fuckin'-vohl. The
latest release from that German guy is sure to make you want to
set off
explosions in the yard and get in fights with meatheads at the
local mall
food court all over again. (But please don't. You're probably
about 26 by
now, and shouldn't be at the mall unless it's Christmas.) Rudy's
lowered the
level of the vocals a bit over the years, resulting in an overall
more
listen-able album, without pansying up. The track "Wreath
of Bars" is
club-friendly, surprisingly pretty for a song on the same album
as
"Christfuck" and "Line of Corpses". "Troops
Under Fire" makes great use of
samples as the only vocals, "Hate is Mine" the industrial
equivalent of a
slow jam. If you've always liked :Wumpscut: this album is different
from
previous albums, a bit more polished and interesting. If they
were never
quite your thing before but you've got some extra cash or bigger
balls now,
I highly recommend you pick up Wreath of Barbs and give it a good
listening.
You'll be pleasantly surprised.
Punketta
Doilie's math lesson: Road Rage + the History Channel + church
organs (I mean like vital organs, not musical instruments) = Wumpscut
Industrial
music snob sez: "It's really good, for Wumpscut."
